Due to the prohibition by the original precepts, Buddhism monks were not even allowed to work to support themselves. Baizhang, a ninety-year-old monk took the lead to a breakthrough. He composed the Monastic Rules of Baizhang, changing the way of how monks got supports and leaving a far-reaching influence to Buddhism development.
